Note-worthy
Sorry for the bad pun there. Just had a thought that I wanted to share and some may find humor in it, others may be appalled and some will feel both sides of that coin.
The other night, while my wife and I were grabbing a quick dinner at the local Taco Johns, we witnessed a supreme display of why there should not be kids running any business with no manager in place. In fact, this was the second time in a month we have witnessed this same display.
Here is the situation, it’s about 8:00 at night and we head in for a late dinner. We get our food, sit down and start eating and that’s when the stereo in the lobby starts cranking out music at a louder than acceptable level for a restaurant. That by itself isn’t a major problem though, being a musician, however this time it was some sort of screaming modern heavy/death metal. Complete with a vocalist that sounded like he was growling and snarling rather than any attempt at singing. Ok, so that is strike two.
The proverbial icing on the cake was when the next song started, some sort of modern British sounding punk music, with an intro by the lead singer announcing loudly “So you guys ready to F****ing rock then, eh?”. I literally almost blew Dr. Pepper out of my nose in laughter because the other diners at Taco Johns that evening consisted of a 60 something woman and her grandson, a young teen couple and what appeared to be a 60 something man with his father who had to be in his 80’s. I thought for sure that someone was going to pitch a fit about it, but the only one other than my wife and I that seemed to even notice was the woman with her grandson. Her only reaction was a disgusted eye roll as they promptly exited the building. I don’t know what was more humorous to me, the fact that this music was blasting loudly in throughout the whole restaurant or the fact that every seemed to be oblivious to it.
As I said, this was the second time we have had an incident like this at this same Taco Johns later in the evening. The first time it was the same deal, loud music pumping through the building, only it was “hardcore” street rap which included more than a few flying F-Bombs and lots of smacking around women comments.
I am sure the store management have no idea this is going on and I know someone should probably tell them, but for me it is almost a source of cheap entertainment. I told my wife that I should start going there in the evenings just to watch how people react when this music is blasting away.
If you have any stories about the music played in public places, good, bad, funny or horrifying, I’d love to hear about it!
